Prayer of Repentance From Backsliding
No matter how far you've fallen, it's not too later to return to God
If you've fallen into an old negative lifestyle or habit, join me in this prayer of repentance and God will heal your backslidden heart.
Prayer
Our Dear Father,
Father of grace, whose mercies endure forever. We come before you with heavy hearts, for we have sinned against You. We have sinned in turning away from the living God and turning to idols. We have given ourselves over to lusts that drew us further and further away from you, returning to old wicked habits and unions and friendships you had already set us free from.
Indeed, we have been like pigs who after being washed went back into the dirty mud. We have been like dogs who after vomiting went back to the old vomit, to the things we had gotten rid of that did us harm.
We believed the lie that the pleasures of these things would satisfy us, but we were wrong. They left us always wanting more and more yet never being filled. It was an evil thing for us to abandon you, be indifferent to you, and chase the world.
Even so, rather than condemnation and wrath we hear You call us, Your Holy Spirit pulling on our spirit to return. Even as you had called Israel saying "Return, faithless people, I will cure you of your backsliding" so you call us. We respond with a YES! We will return to you, for you are the LORD our God. We will seek Your face forevermore.
Cure us of our backsliding and heal our hearts. Let your anger turn away from us and love us freely. As we dedicate ourselves to read your word, let your words renew our minds and transform us so that we may walk in your good and perfect will.
We pray these things in the name of Jesus, our Redeemer. Amen.
